About this hike
The hike into Perućica starts from a trailhead just above Dragoš Sedlo, approximately 30 minutes by road from our base in Tjentište. The trail descends through dense, unmarked forest — steep in sections, rocky toward the bottom — before arriving at Skakavac waterfall. The descent takes around 1 hour; the return climb back up takes approximately 1.5 hours. Total time on trail is 2.5 to 3 hours, depending on pace and how long you spend at the falls. The trail is not signposted, which is exactly why independent entry is strictly prohibited by national park management. Every group enters with a licensed local guide who knows every section of this forest. On the return drive, we stop at Beškita Viewpoint - the single best panorama in the park, where you can look back over the full canopy of Perućica, spot Skakavac in the distance, see Maglić's ridge above it, and turn around to find Tjentište and the WWII memorial directly below you in the valley.
