Prijevor viewpoint Maglic people Sutjeska National park

What to See from Prijevor Viewpoint in Sutjeska National Park

Perućica is not a rainforest. It's something rarer - a primary forest, ancient and untouched, one of the last of its kind in Europe. No cleared paths, no replanted trees. Just centuries of uninterrupted wild.We didn't find this place. We grew up in it. And now we want to show it to you.

Why This Area Feels So Special

If you plan to visit this Perucica rainforest and Prijevor viewpoint this is the best tour

How to Get to Prijevor from Tjentište

The road to Prijevor starts in Tjentište and climbs steadily into the mountains. The drive is not difficult to follow, but it does get rougher higher up, so it is best to stay on the main road all the way and avoid turning off toward Mrkalji. By the time you reach the plateau, the landscape opens up completely and the whole character of the park changes.

This is not a scenic roadside stop, the drive itself is part of the experience.

Beskita Viewpoint: The First Big Panorama

Beškita is one of the most impressive viewpoints in the Sutjeska area and a great first reward on the way up. From here you can see the Perućica rainforest, Skakavac Waterfall, Maglić, Volujak, and the wide mountain landscape below. It is the kind of place where you naturally stop for a while because the view feels unreal the first time you see it.

Dragos Sedlo: Closer to the Waterfall

Dragos Sedlo is a useful stop because it puts you closer to Skakavac Waterfall and the rainforest itself. The viewpoint is more enclosed than Beskita, so you do not get the same wide mountain panorama, but you do get a stronger sense of the forest depth and the waterfall below. It is also the starting point for the guided hike into Perucica.

What Makes Prijevor Different

Prijevor is the most open and expansive part of the route, and that is what makes it special. At 1,668 metres, the plateau gives you unobstructed views in every direction, including Maglić, Volujak, Perućica, and the high mountain wilderness around them. Compared to the lower viewpoints, Prijevor feels bigger, emptier, and more dramatic.

Trails and Views from the Plateau

Prijevor viewpoint Sutjeska National Park

Prijevor is not only a viewpoint, it is also the starting point for some of the best mountain routes in the park. From here, hikers head toward Trnovačko Lake, Maglić summit, and the surrounding high routes that connect deeper into the massif. Even if you are not hiking further, the plateau itself gives you the feeling of standing at the edge of something vast.

The Viewpoint Tower

A short walk from the parking area leads to the viewpoint tower, where the views become even wider. The structure is exposed to strong wind and is not in perfect condition, but the panorama from the top is still worth the effort. On a clear day, it gives you one of the best elevated looks across the entire area.

Why This Area Feels So Special

This area changes dramatically depending on weather and time of day. In summer, you may still see snow patches on Volujak, while the forests below can stay deep green and almost shadowed even in bright sunlight. That contrast is part of what makes Prijevor feel so wild and memorable. From Tjentište to Prijevor, the road is roughly 17 kilometres and takes around 40 to 50 minutes depending on conditions. The first section is newly resurfaced, while the upper part becomes older and rougher, so it is better to drive slowly and keep full attention on the road. If you are planning to stop at several viewpoints, it is worth allowing extra time rather than rushing. What makes this route stand out is the way the views build on each other. Beškita gives you the first huge panorama, Dragoš Sedlo brings you closer to the forest, and Prijevor opens the whole mountain world in front of you. Together they create a route that feels less like a simple drive and more like a gradual reveal of Sutjeska’s best landscapes.
